Sue Scheff is a national speaker.
In 2006, Sue Scheff was victorious in a landmark case for Internet defamation and invasion of privacy. A jury awarded her an $11.3M judgment for the damages that were inflicted upon her online.
After this happened, she was contacted not only by many media outlets, but by an out-pour of people that had been silently suffering with cyber-attacks.
Sue Scheff’s digital abuse started in 2003, when no one was talking about cyberbullying or online shaming. When she revealed this happened to her in 2006, it opened the door for many others that were struggling with this same nightmare – the emotional difficulties as well as other issues that come with online abuse.
Today it is a topic we hear about almost on a daily basis. It is label cyberbullying, online bullying, online shaming, digital cruelty as well as online harassment and cyber-stalking. We usually hear about it in the context of youth.
However in 2017 PEW Research released a study on adults and online harassment.
66% of adults have witnessed online abuse while 41% have been victims of it. This is not only high, this is extremely disturbing. Why?
Because adults should know better. We could possibly expect this from kids, but parents and grownups should be the role models – the mentors – and people our future leaders should be looking up to.
In 2017 it was revealed that 1 in 3 adults will share intimate photos without their partners permission (SKYN) as revenge porn is rising.
Today Sue Scheff speaks with schools, colleges, businesses, and a variety of conferences about the importance of online reputation, social media, building relationships in your community with social currency and most importantly sharing her story that has empowered people from all walks of life.
Choosing kindness and compassion in an age of cruelty and trolling — online.
There are many people that are marketing gurus or even branding giants, however to they truly understand the emotional side of how social media/networking and keystrokes can impact a person’s life or more to the point – their livelihood?
Sue Scheff lived it and survived it on all counts: Digitally, legally and emotionally.
Firsthand experiences separates her from the rest. The fact is studies have proven the majority of audiences will remember the story of the speaker more than any part of the conference — and this helps them to engage in the takeaways.
The human story, the fact that bad things can happen to good people and you can overcome it. Rise above it and thrive from it.
From teens to professionals to business owners to anyone that will be searched online for anything – including those that are online dating, you never get a second chance to make a first impression and today your first impression is likely your digital one.
Are you Google worthy?
In 2003 Scheff shares her Scarlett Letter that haunted her. She was completely unaware of the influence of Google or that people could be so cruel.
Many believe that this type of social behavior can’t happen to them, let’s hope it won’t, but it is best to be prepared. You never know when one disgruntled client appears or a longtime friend becomes a foe or even a spouse or significant other takes out revenge online, which is now known as e-venge.
Sue Scheff empowers her audiences to not only understand that the Internet is their friend, it can be their business partner. Using social media to build their networks and engage in their community on a digital level.
As someone that knows what it is like to be torn to shreds virtually as the Internet nearly stripped her of her career both financially and emotionally, this cautionary tale and true story brings digital wisdom to all those that hear it. The fact is — online shaming and defamation can impact your business and your financial future (not to mention your relationships).
